All we ask is for you to take care of your kidneys was the repeated message as the family members of TANKER Foundation donated e-BP machines at the Kovai Inspector General’s office.
Three hundred electronic BP apparatuses were donated to Mr. R. Sudhakar, IPS, IG of Police, West Zone, Coimbatore, Tuesday, December 13, 2022, and 50 such machines to Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, Mr Balakrishnan.
This is part of TANKER Foundation’s drive to donate e-BP machines to all police stations in Tamil Nadu to help the police personnel save themselves from kidney disease.
Speaking at the elaborate event at Mr. Balakrishnan’s office, TANKER Foundation Founder-Trustee, Dr Georgi Abraham, was at his eloquent best when he spoke about the need to take care of one’s blood pressure that would affect the working of the kidneys. He warned that kidney disease is asymptomatic and one gets to know of it only after it manifests itself.
Dr. Georgi Abraham, who reeled out statistics, asked the police officers and the police personnel on the ground to take great care of their kidneys and not become a burden to their family.
Dr. Georgi Abraham patiently and clearly explained the need to take care of one’s kidneys by following up on the BP readings. He also demonstrated the right – and easy – way to find out one’s BP.
TANKER Foundation Head Admin, Mrs. Vasanthi Ravichander, gave an introduction about what TANKER has been doing all these years. She told the police personnel that the Managing-Trustee of TANKER Foundation, Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami, calls them Angels on Earth as they are frontline workers, risking their health and very lives in doing their duty.
She said the TANKER Foundation members were not here to brag about the work they do but to genuinely urge the police personnel to take care of their health with the help of the BP machines that have been donated. Mrs. Vasanthi Ravichander said they should keep a record of the BP readings in the book provided and send them to the TANKER office for analysis. Those found to be at risk of kidney disease would be alerted, she explained.
TANKER Foundation Deputy General Manager, Mrs. S. Geetha, spoke about how lifestyle changes, keeping off junk food and drinking a lot of fluids would prevent kidney disease. She also demonstrated on a police officer how the electronic BP apparatus works.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balakrishnan urged his personnel to make good use of the donated machines – and not consign them to the godown – and lead a healthy life.
