As part of the hypertension sensitising programme, TANKER Foundation conducted its digital BP apparatus handing over programme at Salem, November 9, 2022.
The programme was first held at the office of the Commissioner of Police at 12.30 pm, in the conference hall of the commissionerate.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police presided over the function.
Dr. Hari Janaki Raman, nephrologist – Gopi Hospital, Salem, gave a general introduction about TANKER Foundation.
TANKER Foundation Managing-Trustee, Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami, spoke about the various activities of the NGO.
TANKER Foundation Founder-Trustee, Dr. Georgi Abraham, stressed the need for prevention and addressing high blood pressure and diabetes at the earliest.
He pointed out that roasted and salted nuts and fried junk food will be very harmful to health. Instead, bananas, the simple, low-cost fruit, will be beneficial.
TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) Head, Mrs. Rajalakshmi Ravi demonstrated the usage of the digital BP apparatus. She also checked the BP of a few policemen assembled there.
Dr. Hari Janaki Raman also explained the importance of controlling BP and blood sugar.
The Deputy Commissioner in his speech wrapped up the finer points and emphasised that every policeman should check his BP without fail.
About 75 police personnel, including admin staff, attended the programme.
In the afternoon, around 1.30 pm, a similar programme was conducted.
The Superintendent of Police spoke about the misuse of mobile phones and cautioned against prolonged use of such phones. He pointed out that this would lead to sleeplessness and increase one’s BP. About 60 police personnel attended the programme.
In all, 93 BP apparatus were handed over to the Police Department in Salem. In both places where the programme was held, educational material and A3 posters were handed over to the department.
TANKER Foundation is indebted to Dr. Hari Janaki Raman, who had put in a lot of effort to organise the programmes and in disseminating information about kidney health.
