Members of the TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) of TANKER Foundation held a screening camp at Vetri Sports Academy in West Mambalam, Chennai, Monday, May 20, 2024.
Dr. Harish Raj led the TAPP team that was headed by TAPP head, Mrs. Rajalakshmi Ravi, and included Mrs. Deepa.
Volunteers, Mrs. Bhuvana and Ms. Devi Sri, lent a helping hand.
In all, 75 members of the general public participated in the screening camp and had their BMI and blood pressure checked and their capillary blood glucose and urine tested.
The TAPP team was concerned that some people knew that they had diabetes and high blood pressure but had not been taking the prescribed medicines. Some of them said they could manage by going for walks, while others said they were not taking medicines regularly as they thought that would not create problems.
Dr. Harish Raj and the TAPP team gave a lot of counselling to each one of them, making them understand the importance of medication in their condition. Those who required consultation with a doctor, were referred to the nearby primary health centre.
The screening camp was held at Vetri Sports Academy in remembrance of Mr. Vetri Duraisamy, son of former Mayor of Chennai, Mr. Saidai Duraisamy. Mr. Balasubramaniam, who runs the academy, made all the arrangements.
