TANKER Foundation Founder-Trustee, Dr. Georgi Abraham, was presented the Community Development Excellence Award 2023 by the Hindustan Group of Institutions which organised the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Excellence Awards 2023.

The awards were presented in various categories Saturday, June 24, 2023, at a gala event in Chennai.

Dr. Georgi Abraham was selected for the Community Development Excellence Award for his contribution to the community through TANKER Foundation.

The citation, signed by the Hindustan Group of Institutions Chairman, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, talks of the achievements of Dr Georgi Abraham. It deals at length about his ‘over 40 years of dedicated experience in the healthcare field’.

It says Dr Georgi Abraham was always committed to providing affordable treatment and, hence, founded the TANKER Foundation. It goes on to state that he pioneered continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), a treatment for patients with terminal renal failure.

The citation says he has authored 342 articles and is a peer reviewer for medical journals. He has been invited to speak in 34 countries and is the editor-in-chief of the Indian Journal of Peritoneal Dialysis.

It also lists and national and international awards and accolades he has bagged so far.

The citation concludes by wishing Dr. Georgi Abraham to achieve ‘greater heights and contribute more to nephrology and improving access to healthcare for the benefit of our nation and mankind’.

The Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Excellence Awards were initiated in 2009 and this year’s was the fourth edition of the award. It recognised 32 renowned personalities for their noteworthy accomplishments in 2023.
