The 12th machine in the Perungudi unit was inaugurated by ADGP Dr. K. Jayanth Murali IPS. Pledging support for TANKER Foundation’s efforts, Dr. Jayanth Murali hoped there would be a dialysis unit in every district of Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Jayanth Murali inaugurated the dialysis machine he donated along with other well-wishers, at the TANKER Foundation Dialysis Centre functioning at the Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC) at Perungudi, Monday, November 1, 2021.
Being a fitness enthusiast and a marathoner, he expressed concern over people running marathons and not taking care of their kidneys. During the pandemic, the ADGP wanted to do something useful and started the site Let’s Fight Corona and helped people out in various ways.
Dr. Jayanth Murali, who heads the Armed Police, then turned his eyes towards TANKER and raised donations to fund the dialysis machine.
TANKER Foundation calls its dialysis unit staff Angels on Earth for the work they do even during the pandemic. Dr. Jayanth Murali went a step ahead and called them Gods as, he said, they do God’s work here. He also inaugurated an oxygen concentrator, donated by Mr. Durai, on the occasion.
TANKER Foundation Founder-Trustee, Dr Georgi Abraham, said, “We are catalysts, we engage people, we connect people.” He pointed out how donations were vital for the organisation to serve the underprivileged.
Dr Kasirajan, Medical Officer with UCHC, thanked TANKER Foundation for running the unit well and helping the needy.
TANKER Foundation Managing–Trustee, Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami, detailing the work done by the NGO, said this was the 12th machine in the Perungudi unit. She also reminded that “what we do is a drop in the ocean” and how donations were helpful.
She also gave an update of TANKER and said so far TANKER has done more than 4 lakh free and subsidised dialysis through its 12 dialysis centres thanks to valuable support from the CMCHIS, Greater Chennai Corporation and various Rotary Clubs, Freemasons, Round Table and other valuable donors.
TANKER has given donations of Rs.3.49 crore for medications and investigation costs. It has conducted 1,279 awareness programmes reaching out to 1.8 lakh people and over 35,810 people have been screened for kidney disease. The Perungudi dialysis unit started with 10 machines and now has 12 machines.
TANKER Foundation Head Admin, Mrs. Vasanthi Ravichander, proposed the vote of thanks. She had a special word of thanks for Independent Business Strategist, Ms. Vidhya Arumugam, for coordinating with the Armed Police in raising the amount for the Perungudi dialysis machine.
