Eighty members of the general public were screened at a camp organised by TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) team of TANKER Foundation at Chokkikulam in Madurai.
Dr. K. Sampathkumar, Senior Consultant Nephrologist from Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai, guided the TAPP team that included Mr. G. Samuel, Mr. M. Vijay Anandkumar, Mr. B. Arasu and Mr. V. Alagumalai.
The camp, held Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Uzhavar Sandhai Vegetable Market of Chokkikulam, Madurai, saw the participation of 80 members of the general public.
The participants had their BMI and blood pressure checked and their capillary blood glucose and urine, tested.
The TAPP team was ably assisted by four nursing students from the Tamil Nadu Technical and Paramedical Institute.
The TAPP team found that most female participants’ BMI was high. It also detected many diabetes and hyper tension cases. Some people had been diabetic for many years.
The blood samples of participants who had proteinuria and high glucose urea were collected to check their creatinine level.
The doctor advised them to take medicines regularly and do routine check-ups. These people were referred to private hospitals and primary health centres for further action.
