As part of the Prevention through Patient Program of the TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) team of TANKER Foundation, a screening camp was conducted at Madhanamkuppam, Chennai, Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Dr. Sharmila was at hand to guide the TAPP team consisting of Mrs. Ramapriya and Mrs. Deepa. Volunteers, Mr. Parthiban and Ms. Nandhini, provided the necessary support to the TAPP team.
The camp was organised on the initiative of Mr. Baskar, who is a dialysis patient using the Ambattur unit of TANKER Foundation.
In all, 75 auto drivers and members of the general public participated in the camp.
The participants had their BMI and blood pressure checked and their capillary blood glucose and urine tested.
The TAPP team found that most people take medicine for BP and diabetes. But also that most of them do not have BP and sugar under control.
A few new cases of high blood pressure and diabetes were detected at the camp.
It was also found that some participants have protein and glucose in their urine.
Those who required further consultation, were referred to the nearby primary health centre and Rotary Hospital.
Dr. Sharmila also gave dietary advice to all the participants.
