A session on ‘Promoting active listening & self-care for wellbeing by first responders’ was conducted for those trained by BALM (i.e. clinical teams) and who extend support to families and patients with CKD in clinics across Tamil Nadu.
It was held online Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 2 pm to 3.15 pm as part of the celebration of Family Caregivers Month in November by TANKER Foundation.
About 28 persons, including TANKER Foundation unit staff and admin staff, attended the lively discussion and shared about verbal and non-verbal listening skills, signs of burnout, stress and compassion fatigue; on how first responders can offer peer support to one another at the clinical units; how families can be supported as they take care of CKD patients.
There was ‘active listening’ with a video clip on dos and don’ts and a discussion followed.
Mrs. Shanthi Rajmohan, Founder, DIPA, Chennai, spoke on why self-care matters.
Dr Lakshmi Sankaran, Dr K.S. Ramesh and Ms. Elizabeth Sujeetha from BALM organised and conducted the session.
