The Rekha Memorial Renny Abraham Ambattur Rotary TANKER Dialysis Unit in Ambattur saw nine new haemodialysis machines being inaugurated Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The new machines were handed over by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), and inaugurated by Mr. N. Senthil Kumar, Director (Pipelines), holding Additional Charge of Director (P&BD), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., in the presence of Mr. L.K. Jha, Executive Director and Regional Head, Southern Region Pipeline, and other senior officials from IOCL.
Speaking after the inauguration, Mr. Senthil said he deeply appreciated the work TANKER was doing for the needy with kidney failure. IOCL was also keen on the awareness and screening programmes that they were supporting, as early detection was important for timely intervention.
This generous support will benefit all the underprivileged patients of TANKER Foundation. IOCL has also supported the awareness and screening programmes with creatinine machines that will help in knowing the creatinine levels with just a drop of blood.
Dr. Georgi Abraham, Founder Trustee of TANKER Foundation, welcomed the gathering and said TANKER was also doing a study on diabetes and tests that could be done early on to detect the probability of the progression of kidney disease. India has a high prevalence of diabetes and studies like these, leading to significant and useful findings, would definitely help everyone, especially the underprivileged, since treatment for kidney disease is expensive and unaffordable to them, he said.
Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee of TANKER Foundation, conveyed TANKER’s heartfelt gratitude to IOCL, the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Ambattur Rotary Hospital and other valuable donors for their consistent and generous support.
She said the lifespan of a haemodialysis machine typically ranges from 6 to 7 years, after which the machine must be replaced depending on utilisation and operating hours. She highlighted the importance of timely replacement to ensure the continued delivery of quality care to patients.
Mrs. Vasanthi Ravichander, Head Admin, TANKER Foundation, and Mr. Prakash, CSR, IOCL, gave details of the IOCL support for nine dialysis machines for the Ambattur TANKER dialysis unit, 30 awareness and screening programmes along with roadshows and the new creatinine machines which will detect creatinine levels like a blood sugar glucometer.
