Dr Georgi Abraham, Founder-Trustee of TANKER Foundation, with an aim of taking care of the police force, who are frontline workers and strive to maintain peace and order, proposed the idea of distributing BP apparatus to all the police stations in a phased manner throughout Tamil Nadu.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the main causes for kidney failure. Booklets will be given along with the machines to record the readings and follow-up with them, to caution and advise those who are found to be at risk.
TANKER will be distributing over 700 machines in the next few months.
TANKER Foundation started the project Monday August 8, 2022, and handed over 50 electronic BP machines to Mr. Sandeep Rai Rathore, IPS, Commissioner of Police at the Commissioner’s Office in Avadi.
The Commissioner thanked TANKER Foundation and urged all the police personnel to take care of their health with regular exercise and diet.
The Additional Commissioner of Police, Avadi, Mrs.Vijayakumari Balakrishnan, said TANKER would also conduct screening camps for the Police Department.
Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami, Managing-Trustee, TANKER Foundation, said the police were the Angels on Earth whose health is of utmost importance. She gave an update about TANKER activities. TANKER has done more than 5 lakh dialysis and given Rs. 3.9 crores as financial support so far.
As awareness and screening is the need of the hour, she thanked Mrs. Rajalakshmi Ravi, Advisory Member and Head – TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program, and her team for having reached out to over 2 lakh people with awareness programmes and screened 39,000 people for early detection of kidney disease.
Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami also thanked DGP, Dr Jayanth Murali, for graciously running a full marathon to raise funds for the project. She also extended grateful thanks to Centaur Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Narotham Reddy, MD, Medsmart, Mr. Ramesh Victor, COO, Medsmart, and Ms. Vidya Arumugam, Strategist, Medsmart, and other donors who supported the project.
