





TANKER ANNUAL AWARDS & LECTURES
Encouraging research and extraordinary service is part of TANKER’s ethos. Awards and Recognitions are given annually to honour the pursuit of excellence.
An award is given every year to encourage research at Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT) meeting by TANKER Foundation.
- Young Investigator Award – ₹ 50,000
An award is given every year to encourage research at Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN)
- Rekha Memorial Young Investigator Award – ₹ 10,000
- Grants provided for research as on date – ₹ 2.8 million
TANKER Annual Awards:
TANKER Foundation gives away awards amounting to ₹ 0.8 million. Here are the various awards given away every year:
- The K.V. George Kottukulam Memorial TANKER & Kerala Kidney Research Foundation Young Investigator Award: ₹ 2,00,000, with citation and gold medallion, is given to the most outstanding young researcher in nephrology in India. The awardee is chosen from among any researcher below 45 years of age who has made an outstanding contribution towards understanding kidney diseases of relevance to India and has an unpublished work.
- The Renny Abraham TANKER Foundation Love for Service Award: ₹ 1,00,000, with a gold medal and a citation, is given to the most outstanding Medical Doctor in India who has gone beyond the call of duty in rendering service to the underprivileged.
- The La Renon TANKER Foundation for the Sake of Honour Award: ₹ 1,00,000, with citation and gold medallion, is given to any person doing exemplary work in any field.
- The La Renon TANKER Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award: ₹ 2,00,000. ₹ 1,00,000 each, with a citation and gold medallion, is given to two Indian nephrologists who have done exemplary work in the field of nephrology.
- The K. Venkatanarayana TANKER Foundation Awareness Award: ₹ 1,00,000. A new award has been instituted by the BALAHA Group of Companies for creating awareness about any disease, mental, physical and social. The award will carry a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000, a citation and a gold medallion.
- The Ashok Shankaralingam TANKER Foundation Patient Endowment – ₹ 2,00,000. One-year dialysis support is given for 3 underprivileged, deserving patients with kidney failure.
LECTURES
MR. S.V.VENKATESAN AND MRS. MALATHI VENKATESAN MEMORIAL LECTURE (2016 ONWARDS):
Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan Memorial Lecture was initially initiated by Late. Shri. S. V. Venkatesan, Trustee, TANKER Foundation, and his family, in memory of his wife, Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan, former Trustee, TANKER Foundation, to bring world-renowned personalities to Chennai to share their life experiences, especially regarding the healthcare system and renal disease. This has now been renamed as Mr. S.V. Venkatesan and Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan Memorial Lecture.
THE KRISHNAN – ANG LECTURE (2009 to 2015):
The Krishnan-Ang TANKER Foundation Endowment Lecture was initiated by the Krishnan and Ang families to bring world-renowned personalities to Chennai to share their life experiences especially concerned with the healthcare systems and renal disease.
THE LAKSHMI VENKATRAMAN ENDOWMENT ORATION (2013 to 2015):
The oration was instituted by Dr, K. Ramanadhan and Dr. K. Ganapathy, on topics related to public health / preventive aspect in the general management of renal disease and also about organ donation.
TANKER ANNUAL AWARDS & LECTURES
TANKER Foundation celebrated its 32nd Annual Charity and Awards Nite Monday, January 27, 2025, at Hotel Savera, Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Ma. Subramanian, who was the chief guest at the event, handed over the various awards that were given away at the event.
The K.V. George Kottukulam Memorial TANKER & Kerala Kidney Research Foundation Young Investigator Award for outstanding research done in the field of nephrology in India was awarded to Dr. Mythri, for her research into ‘Potential Diagnostic Role of Urinary Exosomal miRNAs in IgA Nephropathy: A Clinical Observational Study’. The award carries a prize of Rs. 2 lakh, a citation and a gold medallion.
The Renny Abraham TANKER Foundation Love for Service Award for a medical doctor who has gone beyond the call of duty in serving the underprivileged was awarded to Dr. M.K. Srinivasan. He is 98 years old and has been serving the needy for over 60 years, charging them next to nothing. The award carries a prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and a gold medallion.
The K. Venkatanarayana TANKER Foundation Awareness Award given to an individual for creating awareness of any disease, mental, physical and social, was awarded to endocrinologist, Dr. Usha Sriram, for her exceptional efforts in raising awareness about diabetes in girls and women through her NGO, DIWAS. The award carries a prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and a gold medallion.
The La Renon TANKER Foundation For the Sake of Honour Award given to an individual who has done exemplary work in his or her field was awarded to Mr. V. Gururajan, post-transplant survivor for 32 years. The award carries a prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and a gold medallion.
The La Renon TANKER Foundation Lifetime Achievement Awards given to two individuals who have done exemplary work in the field of nephrology were awarded to Dr. Sanjay Pande, Gujarat, and Dr. Praveen Namboodiri, Kerala, who have served tirelessly in the field of kidney disease. The awards carry a prize of Rs. 1 laksh, a citation and a gold medallion each.
The Ashok Sankaralingam TANKER Foundation Patient Endowment – which is a one-year dialysis support – was given to four underprivileged patients with kidney failure – Rs. 2 lakh.
Awards were given to well-wishers and volunteers. TANKER Staff Awards were given for service, dedication, commitment, punctuality and awareness initiative.
