The awareness programme conducted by the TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) team of TANKER Foundation at Villapuram, Madurai, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, for auto drivers gave quick results. Their Sangam which organised tea and vadai for snacks, made them immediately reflect that they should have organised healthy snacks.
Date: 29.7.2025
Place: Villapuram, Madurai district
Venue: Madurai Meter Autodrivers Sangam, Housing Board, Villapuram, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Number of participants: 250 auto drivers
Speaker: Mr. Venkatesan (Program Co-ordinator)
Remarks: Mr. Venkatesan led the session with an informative and engaging presentation on the role of kidneys in the human body, common causes of kidney diseases and practical tips for maintaining kidney health.
He highlighted the importance of regular screening, a kidney-friendly diet, adequate hydration and physical activity.
The session concluded with a note of gratitude to all attendees for their enthusiastic involvement and a reminder to prioritise kidney health through regular medical checks and healthy lifestyle practices.
Some auto drivers said they had relatives who were on dialysis. So, there were enquiries regarding admission for dialysis in the TANKER Foundation unit.
After the session, snacks in the form of tea and vadai were arranged by the Meter Autodrivers Sangam. But, having keenly listened to Mr. Venkatesan, and having learnt their lesson, the drivers were very sharp in realising it was not very healthy for them. They felt that a healthy and nutritious drink and snack should have been arranged. Their instant understanding proved that the awareness talk was a great success.
