TANKER Foundation Co-Founder and Managing Trustee, Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami, was honoured by her alma mater, Stella Maris College, Chennai, during the alumnae meet Saturday, November 15, 2025. College Principal, Sister Stella, honoured her with a surprise award.
Speaking before receiving the surprise honour from the college Principal, Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami highlighted the team work that was taking TANKER Foundation forward. She recalled doing Public Relations at Stella Maris College and said that made her seek monetary help from donors without hesitation.
Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami mentioned the inspiration provided by TANKER Foundation Founder Trustee, Dr. Georgi Abraham, in launching and guiding the NGO. She gave full credit to the staff, whom she called ‘Angels on Earth’, who were responsible for running the show.
On a light note, she said Mr. Mahadevan (Founder, Chennai Mission, a registered charitable trust) calls her Vasool Rani (queen of collecting money – almost extortion), alluding to a Kamal Haasan movie with a similar name – Vasool Raja (king of extortion).
Principal Stella caught Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami by surprise when she honoured her with an award at the alumnae meet. Reacting to the honour, the TANKER Foundation Managing Trustee said she was “very touched and humbled to receive a surprise award from my college” at the meet.
