Two interns of The American College, Madurai, Harini and Nandhini, organised an awareness programme at the Kakkai Padiniyar Girls Higher Secondary School, Chinna Chokkikulam, Madurai, that was conducted by the TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP) team of TANKER Foundation, Friday, December 12, 2025. Dialysis Technician, Ms. Veeralakshmi, addressed the 70 participating students and conducted an active Q&A session.

Remarks: The awareness programme was organised by The American College, Madurai, interns, Harini and Nandhini. The session began with an introductory address by Ms. Veeralakshmi, who explained the mission and activities of TANKER Foundation. Her talk helped the participants gain a clear understanding of the organisation’s role in promoting kidney health awareness.
This was followed by an informative session on the causes, symptoms, and prevention of kidney disease.
Ms. Veeralakshmi emphasised the importance of a healthy diet and maintaining proper water balance.
She encouraged the students to avoid junk food and adopt healthy lifestyle practices to prevent kidney-related illnesses.
She gave a detailed talk about the importance of physical activity.
An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, in which the students participated actively. Ms. Veeralakshmi also answered queries related to PCOD and other menstrual issues.
The programme was well-received by the students.
Principal, Mrs. Julie, expressed her interest in conducting a similar awareness programme for class 12 students in January.
