Remarks: The awareness programme was organised by Mr. Immanuel, a patient from the Ambattur dialysis unit of TANKER Foundation, under the Prevention Through Patient Programme of the TANKER Awareness and Prevention Program (TAPP).
The session was conducted for children aged 8–14 at the camp, along with 20 adult leaders, all of whom were engaged in learning spiritual values.
The programme began with an introductory talk by Mrs. Bhuvana, who explained the mission and activities of TANKER Foundation in a simple and child-friendly manner, helping the participants understand the importance of kidney health.
This was followed by an interactive awareness session by Mrs. Deepa, who explained the causes, symptoms and preventive measures of kidney disease in an easy-to-understand manner suitable for both children and adults.
During the session, the children were taught that kidneys help clean the blood and keep the body healthy. They were encouraged to drink enough water, eat nutritious food, avoid junk food, maintain personal hygiene and stay physically active.
The children were also advised to remind their parents to keep blood sugar and blood pressure under control for good kidney health. Elders were informed that uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure are major causes of kidney disease.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, with active participation from the elders. Overall, the programme emphasised that caring for physical health is important along with spiritual growth, as a healthy body supports a disciplined and meaningful life.
