Remarks: The TANKER Foundation successfully conducted a kidney health awareness programme for the general public at Valluvar Kottam, Nungambakkam, Chennai. The programme was organised in a prominent public space to reach a diverse audience and promote awareness on kidney health and preventive care. Approximately 200 members of the general public actively participated in the event where 500 Tamil brochures were distributed.
The objective of the programme was to educate the public on the vital functions of the kidneys and to encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices to prevent kidney-related diseases.
The TANKER team delivered the awareness messages through an engaging and interactive awareness activity that used simple explanations, humour and real-life examples to make the information easily understandable for people of all age groups.
The programme highlighted common lifestyle-related risk factors such as inadequate water intake, excessive consumption of salty and processed foods, high sugar intake, physical inactivity and improper use of medications, all of which can adversely affect kidney health.
The participants were also educated on early warning signs of kidney problems, including persistent fatigue, swelling of the body, and changes in urine output, emphasising the importance of early diagnosis and timely medical consultation.
Practical preventive measures were reinforced throughout the programme, including maintaining proper hydration, consuming a balanced and nutritious diet, limiting salt and sugar intake, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding unnecessary or self-medication.
The session witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from the general public. Interactive discussions and question-and-answer segments were incorporated into the programme, allowing participants to seek clarifications and share their concerns.
Overall, the awareness programme successfully reached 200 members of the public, effectively spreading essential knowledge on kidney health.
