TANKER Foundation marked a historic milestone with the launch of the Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) Fluid Bags Distribution Programme under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), Government of Tamil Nadu, at the Ambattur Rotary TANKER Dialysis Unit.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Georgi Abraham, President and Founder-Trustee of TANKER Foundation, who distributed the first CAPD fluid bag in the presence of Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee.
This occasion holds special significance in the history of kidney care in India. In 1991, Dr. Georgi Abraham pioneered the introduction of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) in the country, laying the foundation for home-based dialysis and transforming the treatment options available to patients with kidney failure.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Georgi Abraham said:
“Introducing CAPD in India in 1991 was the beginning of a journey to make home-based dialysis a reality for patients. Today, seeing CAPD fluid bags distributed through CMCHIS is a dream come true for all of us. It represents a significant milestone in ensuring that deserving patients have equitable access to quality kidney care without financial hardship.”
The first CAPD fluid bag under the programme was distributed to Mr. K.S. Manoharan.
Also present on the occasion were Mr. Srinivasan from Baxter PD Solutions, Mr. Guganathan, Mr. Giridharan, Area Managers of TANKER Foundation, and members of the TANKER Foundation team.
