Venue: Udhavum Ullangal Skill Development Centre, Chromepet
Number of participants: 52 trainees and teachers
Tests done: BMI, blood pressure, blood sugar, urine
Doctor: Dr. Kabilan
TAPP team: Mrs. Deepa, Mr. Hemeshwaran, Mrs. Ramapriya
Interns: 2 students from Madurai School of Social Work.
Remarks: A total of 52 participants benefited from the kidney health screening camp at the Udhavum Ullangal Skill Development Centre, Chromepet.
The screening camp identified 10 individuals with elevated blood sugar levels and four participants with high blood pressure.
Notably, all 10 high blood sugar cases and four high blood pressure cases were newly-diagnosed, indicating the presence of previously undetected, lifestyle-related health conditions among the participants.
Additionally, one participant showed abnormalities in the urine test, suggesting possible kidney-related concerns that require further medical evaluation. Based on the findings, 14 high-risk individuals were referred to the nearest primary health centre (PHC) for further assessment and follow-up treatment.
Dr. Kabilan also provided dietary guidance and health advice to all participants, emphasising the importance of healthy food habits, regular physical activity, adequate hydration and routine health check-ups to maintain overall well-being and prevent kidney-related diseases.
The programme helped create awareness about early detection and preventive healthcare among the women trainees and staff members of the skill development centre.
